The Bosphorus bridge also called the “First Bridge” spans from Europe to Asia. There are a total of 3 bridges now, but this one was the first hanging bridge to connect both sides. Constructed in in the 70s over 180.000 vehicles cross it every day. But besides the practical function it’s a symbol and a connecting link between Muslim and non-Muslim populations, the east and the west, oriental and european cultures. Such a pitty though that today it’s not open to pedestrians anymore.
