The first town that you’ll come through on the amalfi coast is Positano. Built on the steep coastline it’s referred to as the “vertical city” or “pyramide city”. The town is very beautiful, with its narrow streets and staircases, boutiques, restaurants and many cafés. Interestingly Positano was a relatively poor fishing village before John Steinbeck published an essay about it in Harper’s Bazaar in 1953. Even though now a main tourist spot on the coastline I would still recommend visiting and staying for a night. The sunset and night atmosphere is amazing, best enjoyed from one of the many terraces. Just be aware that the main road is one-way and if you don’t want to park far away and take a shuttle it’s best to check with your hotel if they have parkings. Most convenient would be a Vespa however 🛵⁣
